On June 30, 2026, Baliuag University conducted a seminar entitled "Empowering Students to Advance the Sustainable Development Goals in Everyday Life." The activity brought together first- and second-year college students in a learning experience designed to deepen their understanding of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and inspire them to become active contributors to a more sustainable future.
The SDGs serve as a global framework for addressing some of the world's most pressing challenges, including poverty, quality education, climate change, good health and well-being, gender equality, and environmental sustainability. Recognizing that achieving these goals requires the participation of all sectors of society, Baliuag University continues to strengthen its commitment to educating and empowering students to become responsible citizens and changemakers.
The seminar featured Ilan Enverga, an award-winning educator, international teacher trainer, and founder of Global Changemaker Schools, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Enverga is also the organizer of the Philippines' largest SDG gathering, the SDG Action Summit, which convenes thousands of youth leaders, representatives from United Nations agencies, government institutions, private organizations, and civil society groups.
During the seminar, students gained valuable insights into the significance of the SDGs and their relevance to daily life, community development, and global sustainability. Through engaging discussions and practical examples, participants learned that advancing the SDGs does not always require large-scale initiatives. Simple actions, such as practicing responsible consumption, reducing waste, conserving resources, promoting inclusivity, and participating in community activities, can collectively create meaningful and lasting impact.
The activity was guided by three key learning outcomes. Students were expected to understand the importance of the SDGs, identify practical actions that support sustainable development within their homes, classrooms, organizations, and communities, and develop personal commitments or action plans aligned with the University's SDG Agenda. These outcomes encouraged participants to move beyond awareness and toward active engagement in sustainability efforts.
More importantly, the seminar reinforced the idea that young people play a critical role in shaping a sustainable future. By equipping students with the knowledge, values, and motivation needed to contribute to the SDGs, Baliuag University is investing in the development of future leaders who can drive positive change in their communities and beyond.
This initiative reflects Baliuag University's continuing effort to help achieve the SDGs through education, awareness-building, and student empowerment. By fostering a culture of sustainability and social responsibility, the University remains steadfast in its mission of producing graduates who are not only academically competent but also committed to creating a better and more sustainable world for all.
