25 Years of Universityhood: A Legacy in Motion

by Dr. Ramiro Plopino

The year 2001 marked a defining milestone in the history of Baliuag University. After decades of growth as Baliuag Institute, Baliuag Junior College, and later Baliuag Colleges, the institution was granted university status by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), becoming the first autonomous university in Central Luzon. This transformation reflected its unwavering commitment to academic excellence, innovation, research, and public service.

Over the next twenty-five years, Baliuag University continuously expanded its academic offerings, strengthened program accreditation (both local the and international), modernized its facilities, and embraced technological advancements in teaching and learning. New undergraduate and graduate programs were introduced to respond to the evolving needs of industry and society. At the same time, strategic partnerships with local and international institutions broadened opportunities for students and faculty alike. The University likewise enhanced its research culture, community extension initiatives, and global engagement, preparing graduates to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

The years also showcased Baliuag University's remarkable resilience and readiness for change. Amid educational reforms, rapid technological advancements, and the unprecedented disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the University drew on its established Learning Management System, which had already been integrated into its teaching and learning practices long before the global health crisis. This strong digital foundation enabled a seamless transition to fully online instruction while ensuring continuity in learning and student support. More importantly, it reinforced the University's reputation as a forward-looking institution that anticipates change, embraces innovation, and transforms challenges into opportunities for growth.

As the University celebrates 25 years of universityhood in 2026, it also proudly enters its second century as an educational institution founded in 1925. This silver milestone honors the visionary leaders and administrators, dedicated faculty and staff, accomplished alumni, supportive partners, and generations of students who have contributed to the University's enduring legacy. Guided by its core values (RISER, which stands for responsibility, integrity, service excellence, and respect) and inspired by its vision of academic excellence, Baliuag University continues to cultivate competent professionals, ethical leaders, and responsible citizens committed to nation-building.

The journey from 2001 to 2026 is more than a timeline of milestones—it is a testament to transformation, perseverance, and a shared vision. As Baliuag University enters its next chapter, it remains committed to empowering lives through quality education, advancing knowledge through innovation and collaboration, and creating a sustainable future for the communities it serves.
