OUR PROGRAMS

 

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The BSN program develops  professional nurses who are able to assume entry level positions both in hospital and community settings  in collaboration with other health care providers. Throughout the program, nursing students are being prepared to become responsible, conscientious, caring  and compassionate, even when under challenging situations.

 

With the aim of instilling the rigor of the nursing profession, the program provides a well-planned curriculum of instructional activities and related learning experiences (RLE) that develops the roles and competencies of a beginning nurse in providing safe and holistic care to healthy and at-risk individuals, families, population groups and the community. The program also focuses on the promotion of health, prevention of illness, restoration of health, alleviation of sufferings, and the provision of end-of-life care.

 

Career Paths/Related Careers: With nursing being a versatile profession, there are limitless opportunities. Nurses are in high demand in various sectors of the health and health-related industries.

 

As a Hospital Nurse, work in various capacities such as: Staff Nurse, Head/Senior Nurse. Nurse Manager, Nurse Supervisor, Chief Nurse, Nursing Service Director; and in diverse specialties in the hospital such as Emergency Room Nurse, Intensive Care Unit Nurse, Critical Care Nurse, Renal/Dialysis Nurse, ER Nurse, Operating Room Nurse, NICU Nurse, Pediatric Nurse, Maternal Care Nurse, Gerontology Nurse, Mental Health and Psychiatric Nurse and Telehealth Nursing among others.

 

As a Nurse Educator, you may become a Dean, Academic and Clinical Coordinator, Faculty Member, or Clinical Instructor.

 

As a Community Heath/Public Health Nurse, you have the potential to be a health Educator, Home Care Nurse, School Nurse. Other related careers include Company Nurse, Private-Duty Nurse, Occupational Health Nurse, Military Nurse.

 

In other field and services, you may also become a Researcher, Nurse/Health Informatics. Nurse entrepreneur, Flight Nurse, Forensic Nurse.

 

 

Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology

This is a four-year program consisting of general education and professional courses that provides quality training to Medical Technology students to become competent, responsible, competitive and committed to serve needs of the patients in a health care delivery system.

 

The fourth year level is the internship program, of one (1) year rotated in different laboratory sections such as Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunohematology ( Blood Banking ), Immunology and Serology. Urinalysis and other Body Fluids (Clinical Microscopy), Parasitology, Histopathologic/Cytologic Techniques and other emergent technologies.

 

In this program, the BSMT students learn how to collect, preserve and analyze specimens such as blood, urine, cells and tissues as well as the preparation of reagents (compounds or substances added to a specimen in order to create a chemical reaction) and stains (a discoloration made by a foreign matter). This program will also train them on how to use modern equipment, instruments and scientific methods to provide accurate laboratory results.

 

The BSMT students are introduced to the structure pf clinical laboratory and pathology services. It equips students with knowledge and skills in performing accuracy in laboratory procedures needed to help the physician in aid  diagnosis ,treatment and prevention of diseases.

 

The BSMT students are acquainted with the professional practice issues including ethical practices  in the performance of medical technology procedures, practice the principle of data security and patient’s confidentiality  and laboratory safety measures.

 

Career Paths/Related Careers: Upon passing the Licensure Exam, they can become biochemist, bacteriologist, blood bank technologist, clinical pathologist, histologist, microbiologist, parasitologist, medical research assistant, toxicologist, cytotechnologist, crime lab analyst, medical laboratory manager, medical equipment sales representative, pharmaceutical sales representative, medical technician, chief medical technologist and/ or chief medical researcher.

 

 

Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics ( BSND )

The BSND is a four- year degree program consisting of general education subjects and professional courses designed to equip students with knowledge, skills in the three (3) areas of nutrition, namely, Hospital Dietetics, Community Nutrition (Public Health)  and Food Service.

 

Throughout the program, BSND students are being prepared to become responsible, conscientious, creative , resourceful, competent  , research-oriented and with ability to  communicate effectively  in order to  respond to the health needs of the patient and client both in clinical and community settings .

 

This program integrates the development of knowledge and skills, as well as the proper values and attitudes, required in the exercise of the nutrition and dietetics profession, through provision of quality instruction both in academic and clinical theory, coupled with practicums in all these three areas.

 

In addition, students are taught the principles and procedures on the use of food consumption for the therapy of persons suffering from disease, as well as the techniques and management of food production, particularly the phases of the food service cycle: menu planning, purchasing, receiving, storage and issuance, pre-preparation, production, merchandising and service, food safety, sanitation and cost control.

 

A graduate of BSND who passes the Nutritionist-Dietician Licensure Examination is called as Registered Nutritionist-Dietician.

 

Career Paths/Related Careers: Upon completion of the program, graduates are qualified to take the board exam for nutritionist-dietitians. Successful passers may opt for a career as Nutritionist-dietitians in various areas (e.g., clinical, gerontological, neonatal, sports and fitness dietitians ), Therapeutic Nutritionist-Dietician, Research Nutritionist-Dietician, Teaching Nutritionist-Dietician, Clinical Dietician, Public Health Nutritionist-Dietician, or pursue a career in the foodservice industry, research, quality control, product development, or become a wellness or weight loss consultant. Non-board passers have the opportunity to work in the foodservice industry or healthcare sales.

Over the years, graduate of the College of Nursing have consistently performed very well in the Nursing Licensure Examinations. In fact, we have top board placers almost every year. For the past years,  100 % percent passing in the Nurse Licensure Examinations are maintained.

Other Opportunities for Learning

Aside from core instructions, we also offer leadership training and team building activities to ensure holistic nursing education.

With ongoing Global Skills Partnership project organized jointly with Baliuag University, the University Hospital Bonn (UKB) in Bonn, Germany, and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH that provides special training to nursing students to qualify to work in Germany. This includes specialized German theoretical and practical skills training and   German language training at no cost to the participating students.

With technology revolutionizing how jobs are done, our nursing students are equipped with Information Technology Training, with special focus on nursing and health informatics.

 

 

Communication Training

 

Whether you choose tom practice here in the Philippines or abroad, the ability to communicate is critical. We offer an advanced conversational English Training course, in collaboration with international language instruction provider, BERLITZ.

We also promote out-of-the-classroom learning by encouraging our students to participate in national conventions and conferences; as well as conduct and participate exhibitions both locally and nationally.

For nearly 48 years, BU has offered quality instruction that enhances your knowledge and skills, and develops your total personality, to become a globally competitive and caring professional nurse.

The College of Nursing was granted Level IV First Accreditation status after the last visit of the PACUCCOA Accreditors last October 2021.

Through the collaboration of our highly qualified and competent Dean and Faculty Members, we continuously evaluate our program offerings and improve instruction to provide quality nursing, medical technology, and nutrition-dietetics education.

Into our curriculum, we integrate special training programs like Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Disaster Risk Reduction Management, Primary Health Care utilizing the HRDP-COPAR Model. Essential Intrapartum Newborn Care (EINC), and Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI).

We also have a Related Learning Experiences (RLE) program that is thoroughly planned, methodically implemented, and closely supervised by competent clinical instructors so that our students may acquire the best nursing skills, knowledge, attitude, and values, utilizing updated modules and the latest training models.
