About BU Alumni Association

 

 

 

The BUAA Grand Alumni Homecoming is a yearly event spearheaded by the BU Alumni Association, in close cooperation with the Baliuag University, where graduates of the Baliuag University are gathered together to reconnect with their former schoolmates and renew ties with their Alma Mater.   The occasion likewise presents an opportunity to identify possible areas of cooperation between alumni and school for joint community outreach undertakings.

 The first grand homecoming was held on February 12, 1990 following the organization of the Baliuag Colleges Alumni Association (BCCA) on March 12, 1989 with Engr. Ireneo S. Villangca, from High School Class 1948, as president. The affair coincided with the Baliuag Colleges’ 65th foundation year.

For the next 22 years the grand event was held every two to three years considering the extent of preparation and financial requirements to hold such a big activity. Beginning year 2012 however, on the encouragement of BU President Dr. Patricia B. Lagunda, the homecoming has become a yearly affair to give the milestone jubilarians the privilege to celebrate on their exact anniversary year. 

Honoring Outstanding Alumni

In 1998, then BCAA president Engr. Jose B. de Guzman made the Grand Reunion stage a venue for recognizing alumni achievers. The first group of awards were given to government officials in the provincial and municipal levels including a posthumous award to BU founder Domingo B. Santiago, Sr. for his significant role as educator and owner of the school, now known as Baliuag University,  that has been serving generations of students in Baliuag and neighboring towns of Bulacan.

Thereafter, more alumni who had made exceptional achievements in their profession or occupation and had given honors to their Alma Mater, were invited to the Homecoming for the presentation of the BUAA Plaque of recognition and the BU Medallion of Honor in the presence of their families and former school mates.  

In 2016, the award was renamed Gawad Domingo B. Santiago, Sr. Outstanding Alumni Award in honor of the late school founder who incessantly worked hard to put his beloved school in the league of leading educational institutions of the country.

To date, the BUAA had given recognition awards to 90 BU alumni achievers in the fields of visual and cinematic arts, education, medicine, nursing, accounting, government service, engineering, law, business and entrepreneurship, community service, peace and order,  and information and communication technology.
