• SHMT has linkages with industry associations and local councils, e.g. Council of Hotel and Restaurant Educators of the Philippines (COHREP)

 

• HM and Tourism faculty members have been well chosen from among the best practioners of Hotel and Restaurant and Tourism Industries

 

• Has state of the art and specialized facilities and laboratories that feature a fully air-conditioned Mock Hotel, fully equipped food laboratory with seven (7) individual kitchens and an air conditioned Commercial kitchen for quantity food production. The actual facilities have been made at par with the standards of a fine dining restaurant, and even comparable with the amenities of a deluxe hotel

 

• The strength of the HM and Tourism lies in the implementation of the International Practicum Training program. Students who are in the 3rd or 4th year level can complete their practicum under the International Practicum Training Program (IPTP) program in hotels and restaurants in the United States of America, Singapore and Macau.

 

• Students are now doing their On-the Job Training (OJT) in the following hotels/restaurants/country clubs/cineplexes: Busch garden in Virginia and Florida and Sea World in Texas and Florida, Marina Mandarin Hotel, Raffles Hotel, Rendezbous Hotel, Gallery Hotel, Negara Hotel, Gelateria Venezia, Serangoon Gardens Country Club, The Tanglin Club, Well Born Enterprises, Golden Village Multiplex Pte. Ltd. And NYDC (3) Pte. Ltd., Orchid Country Club. Cathay Cineplexes, pan Pacific Hotel and Novotel Clarke Quay Hotel

 

Some of the privileges enjoyed by the practicumers are the following:

 

• Free air ticket from manila to Singapore and upon completion of the full term of the contract, free return air ticket from Singapore to Manila

• Monthly allowance of $ 450.00 per complete month of training

• Free  accommodation (hostel type or dormitory type)

• Free uniform

• Term benefit insurance of $10,000.00

• Accident, dismemberment insurance up to $ 10,000.00

• Hospitalization benefits under the Workmen’s Compensation plan during the course of work

• Overtime pay in excess of 48 hours of normal work a week

• Day-off in lieu of Singapore Holiday
